INDEPENDENT STUDY, FALL 2020
I'm really excited about my current Independent Study with Professor Gregg Perkins at the University of Tampa. The main goal of my Independent Study is to create several software/sample based instruments using Kontakt 6 software from Native Instruments. Among others, I'll be using Peter Weibel's "Sound Art: Sound As A Medium Of Art" as inspiration for the direction my project is taking. While I'm uncertain of which specific instruments I'll create in the process, I intend to make at least 1 instrument in each of the following categories:
1) Percussion (non-tonal)
2 Percussion (tonal)
3 Bass
4 Melodic (lead)
5 Harmonic Pads
6 Rhythmic Textures
7 Sound Design
I will be recording & editing all samples during this exploration in instrument and sound design & programing. I'll be using both acoustic instruments, and electronic instruments to sample from, such as the MOOG Sub 37, Warwick Electric Bass, DW Drums, Jenco Vibraphone, and Gibson Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar. I will also explore the Kontakt scripting language and integrate at least one script into each instrument. I'll also create the UI (user interfaces) and all artwork for these instruments.
Additionally, I will explore commercially available Kontakt Sample Libraries, and develop a personalized scoring template, and set it up across a network consisting of at least 2 computers utilizing Vienna Ensemble Pro as a VST host. My end goal will be to use my scoring template (consisting of my custom Kontakt instruments & other 3rd party libraries) to score a short video.
